NEUROSPYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS
NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION QUESTIONS
A neuropsychological evaluation is a process for assessing a person’s abilities in a broad range of areas, including cognitive/intellectual functioning, learning difficulties, difficulties with attention, executive functioning challenges, memory and learning, language and visual-spatial difficulties, emotional and behavioral well-being, and social functioning and responsiveness.
Many people can identify problems or difficulties they’ve experienced throughout their lives, but question the source or nature of these problems. Neuropsychological evaluations provide diagnostic clarity and are critical tools to inform treatment planning.
DIAGNOSTIC SPECIALTIES
Neuropsychological evaluations are excellent tools for obtaining greater clarity into whether a specific diagnosis fits your current pattern of strengths and challenges. We specialized in the assessment of several conditions, including:
Anxiety disorders
Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder
Autism spectrum disorder
Depression and mood-related concerns
Executive functioning challenges
Learning difficulties
Memory challenges
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR EVALUATION
Neuropsychological testing begins with a structured intake, during which you’ll share information about your early life and development, your medical history, educational experiences, and social context. This information allows us to select just the right tools to use during your session.
Testing itself takes several hours and is usually completed in the course of one session. Testing results are shared with you during a final discussion session where we use the information gathered during testing to answer your questions and give you guidance on next steps. A written document with testing data and treatment recommendations is given to you after this final visit.
PEOPLE WE WORK WITH
At New Insights Psychology, our clinicians are trained to work with a wide variety of people. Generally, we complete neuropsychological evaluations with clients from age five through age 65.
Children and Adolescents:
Many parents begin to wonder about the development of their child when they see delays at key points, such as learning to talk, making early social connections such as eye contact, or struggling to learn in school. Neuropsychological evaluations can be an invaluable tool for identifying the source of these challenges and helping to guide parents on how to address them.
Adults:
Life takes us on many twists and turns and sometimes we realize that problems we’ve dealt with for a lifetime might be symptoms of a larger issue. From difficulties with sustaining attention, getting work done, and being productive to forming meaningful relationships and managing our emotions, a neuropsychological evaluation may give you greater clarity into your own functioning and needs.
